Calaceit, officially named a town by Alfonso XIII in 1915 was declared a Historic and Artistic Monument for its beautiful buildings and the harmony of the town as a whole. Some of its more beautiful buildings are reproduced in the Pueblo Español in Barcelona

The Baroque church, devoted to Saint Mary, was finished in 1710 and is built on the ruins of a gothic church dating from the latter part of the XIIIth Century.

The corner stones of the ancient castle of Calaceit were used in the building of the old church.

The buildings in the main square, or Plaza Mayor, have arches dating from the XIVth and XVth Centuries and bear witness to the town's medieval legacy.
The great variety and splendour of the elements which make up the medieval town of Calaceit delight the visitor and new discoveries await around every corner.
