Popular Festivals in Calaceit

Bonfire in Honour of the  Quintos  

Sant Antoni Festivals

16th January (or the closest weekend).

Good fun is to be had for all the family round the Bonfire while enjoying the cakes traditionally baked here and, for the grown-ups, drinking Moscatel or Mistela wines.

 

Easter Festivals

The solemn religious processions are held on Easter Thursday and Friday. There is also ritual drumming and, a ferw kilometers away, the "Drum Route".

 

Spring Festivals
During Whitsuntide there is a popular procession to the Hermitage of Santa Anna where a dance and traditional games are held.

 

PilarFestivals
These are held on the 12th of October and are celebrated by an Aragonese Mass.

Spring Fair
During the last week of April the Agricultural and Commercial Fair is held. Animals, plants, machinery, kitchen garden and flowers are all sold.

There is also a magnificent selection of hand made goods, cheeses, cured meat products, wool, basket work and home made soap.

Sant Cristòfol

 

Sant Cristófol
The Sant Cristòfol festival is held on the weekend closest to the 10th of July is celebrated with a great meal of grilled sardines in which the whole town takes part. The village fountain flows with wine instead of water and there is dancing a good times for all on Sant Cristófol hill which usually ends with a spectacular sunrise over the Ports de Tortosa-Beseit.

Town Festivals/August Festivals
Held on Santa María and Sant Roc's days between the 14th and 17th of August.
Old and young alike flock to the square to take part in the ancient sport of running before the bullocks.
For the youngest there are donkey races, bicycle races as well as giants and local festival bands.
The dancing goes on till late and there are fireworks and the "firebulls", a man dressed in a mask of a bulls head full of fireworks which
chases people around the square. To round of the event, there is a meal for the town in which the bullock is again the main participant, but this time stewed with potatoes..
